Description: 

Massive nickel ore consisting of pyrrhotite and exsolved pentlandite, invading patches of silicate igneous rock containing green hornblende, plagioclase and biotite. Clarabelle Open Pit, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

Rotations 1 & 2 - transmitted light (1) and reflected light (2) pairs offset slightly from the rotation point. Some bireflectance can be seen in the pyrrhotite (REF XPL images).

Rotation 3 - reflected light pair showing a string of pentlandite crystals in pyrrhotite.

A few scan lines are visible in the REF PPL and REF XPL mosaics.
