Fact sheet
Description:

Granulite-facies metamorphism affected orthogneisses of the Lewian Complex in the latest Archaean.  Amphibolie facies retrogression was widespread at roughly 1700 Ma.  In this rock, it involved the introduction of CO2 as well as H2O to this metamorphosed ultrabasic rock in the absence of directed stress, giving randomly orientated primsms of the magnesian orthorhombic amphibole, anthophyllite, Mg7Si8O22(OH)2, in a matrix of magnesium carbonate, magnesite.
